“Are we there yet?”

“How much longer?”

How often have you heard similar phrases as a parent? If you haven’t quite gotten there yet, you’re lucky (and just wait)! You can tell your child something will take 30 minutes, and they’re still asking you for a time update 5 minutes later. The concept of time is hard to grasp for most people – now try teaching it to a child and make it fun to learn. Yeah, it’s not an easy task to accomplish. Sierra has been more and more curious about time and how it works the last few weeks, so I’ve been coming up with different ways to introduce her to more than just the basics.

This Week’s Pick: The Berenstain Bears On Time

There are various time-telling activities you can do, but one of my absolute favorites is combining reading with teaching! Introducing – The Berenstain Bears On Time. First of all, this series of books is fabulous. There are so many different Berenstain Bears stories to choose from. Each has their own unique lesson and they are all pretty great (not to mention Sierra is always captivated by them)! This one is great because it’s the perfect solution to teach telling time that’s fun, relatable, and an excuse to snuggle up – hehe!

The MUB Synopsis

The Berenstain Bears On Time is a short rhyming story about the Bear Cubs and their morning routine. Only on this morning, they are not sticking to their time schedule and are in a rush! The story goes through Brother and Sister Bear’s time management and the consequences when they don’t stay on time.

Why I Love It

What a fun way to teach telling time to kids! Instead of doing a normal activity, you can teach time telling and responsibility through this cute and fun story! Plus, it's the perfect reading level for beginning readers too. They can learn time telling skills and management while reading to you! | Time Telling | Teaching Time | Teaching Activities | Kid ActivitiesThere are tons of reasons to love this book. It rhymes (um hello – what child doesn’t love that?). Each page has both digital and analog clocks to assist in reading times. And it teaches responsibility in managing your time and what happens if you don’t. Overall, there are a few great lessons taught throughout the story to help children with multiple aspects of understanding time. Also, this book is a pretty easy read, so young readers can read it to you! Double teaching opportunity!

I think the best part for me, is that it’s a fun story that catches kids’ attention while still teaching them important lessons. Which brings me to love number two – it teaches multiple lessons involving time in one story. Kids can learn how to tell time and how to manage time from the beginning of the story to the end.

The Verdict

Sierra has always loved any story from The Berenstain Bears and this one is no exception. It’s a great feeling as a parent knowing you are spending some quality time reading with your child and teaching them important life skills along the way. Telling time and learning how to manage it are important lessons for kids to learn and The Berenstain Bears On Time does a fantastic job aiding in that!

This is an older book so you may not be able to find it at any local stores – you can grab a copy online here though!
